Our story
A good idea
with great
company.
Mom Prom began with a daughter, a dress, and one question: why should the kids have all the fun?
Since spring 2023
A community tradition,
still in the making.
While helping her daughter prepare for prom, Julie Olinger found herself wishing there was a similar night for moms. She remembered hearing about Mom Prom years ago in Newark and started digging.
She discovered a charity event concept celebrated in communities across the country — a perfect mix of a fun night out and meaningful giving. Then Abbie McIlyar joined the idea, bringing community connections, contagious enthusiasm, and a shared instinct for throwing a really good party.
The first Mom Prom raised $4,184 for HOPE Landing, supporting young adults aging out of the foster care system. Since then, the community has backed Victims Services of East Central Ohio, A Night to Shine, and Abbie herself after a devastating accident.
Today, more than $17,000 has gone back into causes and people right here in Licking County. As planning for 2026 begins, a new committee is opening the door for more ideas, more volunteers, and more ways to show up.
